Auburn makes move for 4-star OT

AUBURN | Jerome Carvin has a decision to make and the four-star offensive tackle doesn’t have much time left to make it.

Carvin, from Cordova, Tenn., is an early enrollee and will sign scholarship papers on Dec. 20.

“I want to go somewhere I feel comfortable and somewhere I can make an impact early,” Carvin said.

One option is Auburn. Carvin spent the weekend in Auburn on an official visit and now lists the Tigers in his top three along with Mississippi State and Tennessee.

“I really had a good time,” Carvin said of his Auburn visit. “The people were great. My family came down and they had never seen Auburn before, so it was good that they got to see it.”

Carvin and his parents were inside Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday for the Tigers’ 26-14 win over No. 1 Alabama. Carvin had attended college games before, but none like that.

“It was probably one of the best games I’ve ever been to,” Carvin said. “The atmosphere was crazy. It’s probably the best atmosphere I’ve been in. I rushed the field and I’d never done that, so that was cool.”

Carvin also spent time during his visit meeting with Auburn offensive line coach Herb Hand, area recruiter Tim Horton and coach Gus Malzahn.

“Coach Hand and Coach Horton, we’ve really built good relationships,” Carvin said. “And Coach Malzahn said he definitely has a big need for offensive linemen.”

Carvin’s visit to Auburn was his fifth and final official visit. He previously visited Mississippi State, Tennessee, UCLA and Memphis. Carvin plans to make a commitment to one of the schools soon and sign the first day of the early period.

“I’m definitely glad I made the visit to Auburn,” Carvin said. “The visit changed things with me and Auburn. Auburn is in it for me.”

Carvin said he will announce his commitment “when the moment strikes.”

Rivals.com ranks Carvin the No. 20 offensive tackle in the 2018 class and No. 11 overall player in Tennessee.
