Auburn legacy OT wins camp MVP award

Brayden Jacobs isn’t the first person in his family to make waves at Auburn.

Still, the thrill was real for Class of 2025 tackle and son of former Auburn tailback Brandon Jacobs, who was named top underclassman offensive lineman at the Tigers’ camp Wednesday.

“I definitely got better today, learned some stuff,” Brayden Jacobs said. “To get the award makes me feel like I performed really well.”

At 6-foot-6 and 301 pounds, Brayden Jacobs already is bigger than his hulking father. He’s also a very good blocker — as evidenced by the 16 scholarship offers he already holds despite being just a sophomore last season. Auburn is one of those offers.

“I think it’s pretty good,” Jacobs said. “I think it means that they want me to come here pretty badly.”

Brayden Jacobs met offensive line coach Will Friend last year when he stopped by Saint Francis in suburban Atlanta and made the scholarship offer. Communication has been via text and phone since then, but this week’s camp gave Brayden Jacobs a chance to watch Friend coach.

It was a good experience for the youngster.

“The drills he does are fun,” Brayden Jacobs said. “The types of drills he does hits all of the key important things that a lineman needs to know.”

Jacobs has plans to make stops at South Carolina, North Carolina State and Alabama during the next week. He has no timetable for a decision.
