AUBURN | Auburn is now the team to beat for the No. 4 outside linebacker.

Zakoby McClain, a Rivals100 recruit from Valdosta, Ga., visited Auburn on Saturday and left with the Tigers on top.

It was McClain’s first visit to Auburn.

“It went real good, way better than I expected,” McClain said. “I liked meeting the coaches and the players, and I liked the facilities. I liked everything. They made me feel like I was at home.”

McClain lists Auburn ahead of his other favorites: LSU, South Carolina and Oregon. A big reason the Tigers took the lead was linebackers coach Travis Williams.

“I want a father-figure coach, and they have that (in Williams),” McClain said. “Me and him have gotten real close. He’s cool. He’s nice and laid back. He keeps it real with you and doesn’t sugarcoat it.”

McClain already is planning a second visit to Auburn.

“I might come back Saturday for the (A-Day) game,” he said.

McClain hopes to announce his commitment by the end of the summer.

Rivals ranks McClain, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 200 pounds, the No. 9 player in Georgia and No. 68 in the Rivals100.
