AUBURN | Roger McCreary didn’t commit to Auburn this weekend, but he considered it.

McCreary, a cornerback from Williamson in Mobile, was one of 14 recruits in Auburn on an official visit.

“I loved it,” McCreary said. “I was thinking about (committing), but I spoke to my mom and we decided to just wait it out.”

There are good reasons for McCreary to wait. He has an official visit set to Alabama next weekend and one to Tennessee the following weekend. N.C. State, which offered on Friday, also could get a visit from McCreary.

Auburn wasn’t disappointed in McCreary’s decision to wait on committing.

“They didn’t pressure me,” McCreary said. “They know I love it here.”

McCreary’s weekend visit only strengthened his opinion of Auburn.

“It went great. I loved the atmosphere and how the players get along with each other and look out for one another,” McCreary said. “It’s like a brotherhood. And I love the coaching staff. They explained that they needed me and also about technique and fundamentals and stuff. I loved everything they said.”

McCreary met with Auburn defensive backs coach Greg Brown, new assistant Marcus Woodson, defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and coach Gus Malzahn.

“Coach Malzahn said they needed me and I loved to hear that,” McCreary said.

McCreary left the visit with a clear favorite. He didn’t commit, but he could be close.

“Auburn stands at the top,” McCreary said. “Auburn is No. 1.”

Steele is scheduled to visit McCreary this week. Woodson will visit McCreary next week.

As a senior, McCreary recorded 100 tackles, eight interceptions and 14 pass breakups. He also had 802 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, 62 receptions for 702 yards and seven touchdowns and passed for 600 yards and six scores.

McCreary doesn’t plan to wait much longer.

“I’m not going to wait until Signing Day,” McCreary said. “I’ll make it before then.”
