Auburn 'in the mix a lot' for No. 5 OT

AUBURN | Auburn solidified itself this weekend as a contender for four-star offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs.

Dobbs, the No. 5 ranked tackle in the 2019 class, took an official visit to Auburn and plans to return.

“They are in the mix,” Dobbs said. “A lot.”

Dobbs, his father and grandmother arrived in Auburn on Friday and stayed until Sunday. His player-host throughout the weekend was junior tackle Prince Tega Wanogho.

“The visit went pretty good,” Dobbs said. “The manhood presentation (stood out). It was talking about greatness and the six steps it takes to be great. It was a nice summary about the culture that Auburn sets.”

Dobbs, who is from Belleville, Mich., spent a lot of time with coach Gus Malzahn and offensive line coach J.B. Grimes.

“I love (Malzahn),” Dobbs said. “And (Grimes) is a real great guy. Him and my dad were clicking real nice these last couple of days. That was real nice.”

Dobbs now has visited Auburn three times and he hopes to return for a fourth.

“I want to come back for the LSU game, but I’m not 100 percent sure,” he said.

Dobbs will take an official visit to USC next weekend. He doesn’t plan to make his college choice until later in the fall.

“I want to wait until I take all five of my visits, but I’m not 100 percent sure I’ll take all five,” Dobbs said.

He is sure that Auburn will be in it until the end.

“Because of the relationships I’ve built,” Dobbs said. “I feel comfortable here. It’s just great southern hospitality.”

Rivals ranks Dobbs No. 31 in the Rivals100 and No. 2 player in Michigan.
