Auburn ground game grabs attention of RB commitment

AUBURN | Auburn running back commitment Asa Martin was inside Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday night for the Tigers’ season opener against Georgia Southern.

Martin, the No. 7 running back in the 2018 class from Austin, liked what he saw from Auburn’s offense as the Tigers rushed for 351 yards en route to a 41-7 win.

“The offense looked real good,” Martin said. "They ran the ball really well. They ran the ball really effectively and that’s what I really liked. I was very impressed.”

Four running backs had at least three carries for Auburn, and two, Kerryon Johnson and Kam Martin, each rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown.

“They used a bunch of backs,” Asa Martin said. “That shows me they give a lot of people chances. It’s always good when you’re not just using one guy.”

Asa Martin was making his first visit to Auburn since choosing Auburn over Alabama in August. Being committed to the Tigers made for an even more enjoyable experience than previous visits.

“It felt good,” Martin said. “It felt even more like home. Everywhere I looked, people were saying my name and yelling ‘War Eagle!’”

Martin, now committed, used the visit to do some recruiting of his own. He spent time talking to four-star defensive tackle Coynis Miller and four-star offensive guard Trey Hill, both of whom visited Auburn on Saturday.
