Auburn feels like home to four-star linebacker
Auburn’s one-day mini-camp was loaded with big-time prospects including one of the Tigers’ top targets in New Orleans (La.) Abramson linebacker Alonzo Horton.
Rated a four-star and the nation’s No. 13 outside linebacker by Rivals.com, Horton picked up his first offer from Auburn last year after attending a camp on the Plains.

“Auburn is where it all began for me,” Horton said. “It’s my motivation. I came there and earned a scholarship and that was my drive for my junior season.”
Horton was just as impressive during his second Auburn camp. He checked in at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds and ran a 4.68 40-yard dash on a wet track.
“The camp went really well,” he noted. “I like everything about Auburn. It feels like home. They play great football in the SEC.
“I worked mainly at linebacker,” he added. “Auburn is recruiting me at linebacker and they wanted to see my cover skills.”
Horton enjoyed working with Auburn linebacker coach Joe Whitt and also met with head coach Tommy Tuberville on Saturday morning.
“When I first went to Auburn, coach Whitt told me I reminded him of Karlos Dansby,” Horton explained. “I didn’t know who he was at first but I started watching him and now he’s one of my favorites. Coach Whitt is a real good coach.
“Me and coach Tubs talked about how recruiting was going and how I was feeling about it,” he added. “He told me how excited he and all the coaches were that I was back on campus. They showed me a lot of love.”
In addition to Auburn, Horton sports written offers from Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Indiana, Oklahoma State, Michigan State, San Diego State, North Carolina and South Carolina. He’s also receiving heavy interest from LSU, Miami and UCLA.
Horton listed his top schools as Miami and the SEC but went on to say that the schools he’ll most likely visit are Miami, Auburn, LSU, Florida and Tennessee.
An offer from the Canes would be tempting.
“Miami does it every year,” he said. “It’s a great place to be. They have good academics, a great football program and put all their players in the league.”
Horton had a strong junior season tallying 95 tackles, 32 tackles-for-loss and 23 sacks. He also blocked five kicks. He sports a 295-pound bench press, 375-pound squat and 36-inch vertical leap.
Horton plans to major in criminal justice and is close to qualifying with a 2.5 core GPA and a 16 on the ACT.
