AUBURN, Ala. | Spanish Fort linebacker Tre Threat left his official visit to Auburn on Sunday with one goal to achieve before he returns Jan. 10, move-in day for the Tigers commitment and early enrollee.
Get ready.
"I learned during my visit that it's going to be hard," Threat said. "I learned that I need to really work my butt off now so that I'll be ready when I get there. I didn't expect it to be a cake walk when I got there, but I know for a fact now that it's going to be hard."
Threat learned the high demands of college football from meeting during his visit with Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, area recruiter Dameyune Craig and strength and conditioning coach Ryan Russell.
Malzahn also spoke to Threat about the future of Auburn's defense. The Tigers have yet to name a replacement for former coordinator Will Muschamp, now the head coach at South Carolina.
It doesn't worry Threat.
"Coach Malzahn said he hoped to have one named by Wednesday," Threat said. "Regardless, he said he is going to get the right guy for Auburn. He told me not to worry about anything and I trust Coach Malzahn."
Threat, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 230 pounds, recorded 88 tackles, including 51 solos, four sacks, three fumble recoveries and 19 quarterback hurries as a senior. He helped lead Spanish Fort to an undefeated season and the 6A state championship.
Rivals ranks Threat the No. 13 inside linebacker in the 2016 class and No. 10 overall player in Alabama.
Threat will play in the Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando, Fla. on Jan. 2. Eight days later he'll move to Auburn in time to start classes on Jan. 13.
"I'm ready," Threat said. "I can't wait."
