AUBURN | Bill Taylor plays on offense and defense for American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, but he’ll play special teams for Auburn in college.

Taylor, who Kohl's Kicking ranks the No. 2 long snapper in the 2017 class, has committed to play the position for the Tigers.

“I visited a lot of colleges this summer and after seeing everywhere and talking to my parents, Auburn just felt like the right choice,” Taylor said. “I feel at home there and the coaching staff really made me feel wanted.”

Taylor committed to Auburn after an impressive performance at the Tigers’ Kicking Camp over the weekend. Auburn offered Sunday. Taylor accepted Monday.

Taylor contacted Auburn special teams coach Scott Fountain and delivered the news.

“He and I have a really good rapport,” Taylor said. “He’s been recruiting me since their specialists camp last year. He came down during spring training a couple of times and I took several unofficial visits to Auburn games last year, so we’ve been in touch for a while.

“He’s also one of the best special teams coach in the nation. He’s got several guys in the NFL and the kicker they have now will probably go, too.”

Taylor, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 230 pounds, has performed well consistently on the kicking camp circuit. Taylor attended the Kohl’s Kicking Underclassmen Challenge and had an average snap time of .63 seconds, according to Taylor’s profile on Kohlskicking.com.

Memphis and Samford both offered Taylor, and Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Missouri, Florida State and Louisville, among others, were showing strong interest.

But Taylor will be a Tiger.

“I grew up an Auburn fan and dreamed of playing college football, but didn’t know where it would be,” Taylor said. “I hoped it would be Auburn, and sure enough, it has come true. I feel really at home at Auburn and that’s where I want to go.”
