4-star tight end caps busy day with Auburn visit

AUBURN | Roswell (Ga.) tight end Tyneil Hopper had a busy Saturday.

The four-star recruit attended the Georgia Tech-North Carolina game in the morning, and then traveled to Auburn for the Tigers’ night game against Mississippi State.

Hopper saw Tech beat the Tarheels, 33-7, and then the Tigers topple the Bulldogs, 49-10.

“Auburn looked amazing,” Hopper said.

Especially quarterback Jarrett Stidham, and Hopper’s former high school quarterback and Auburn freshman Malik Willis. Stidham passed for 264 yards and two touchdowns; Willis ran for a 67-yard score.

“My boy Malik got in and I really liked that,” Hopper said. “Jarrett was throwing really good, and they used the tight end a lot. Both of the tight ends were on the field at the same time. I really liked that a lot, too.”

Hopper spent time talking before and after the game with Auburn tight ends coach Larry Porter. The Tigers offered Hopper in the spring and continue to heavily pursue him.

“They are recruiting me hard right now,” Hopper said. “I’ve been talking to Coach Porter and Coach (Gus) Malzahn. Coach Porter said they are planning to come to one of my games in the next couple of weeks, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Auburn, Louisville, Wake Forest and North Carolina are heavily recruiting Hopper. Georgia and South Carolina are, too, although neither has offered.

“I don’t have a leader right now,” Hopper said. “I hope to set some official visits up soon.”

One of the official visits will be to Auburn.

“I’ll definitely be back to Auburn,” Hopper said.

Rivals ranks Hopper the No. 20 tight end in the 2018 class and No. 39 recruit in Georgia.
