AUBURN | Jensen Beach (Fla.) safety Jamien Sherwood had a change in plans. Instead of visiting Tennessee on Saturday, Sherwood made his first trip to Auburn.

He’s glad he did.

“It’s a great place,” Sherwood said. “They have nice facilities, but they’re real genuine people. I could see myself playing here.”

Sherwood arrived in Auburn Saturday morning and stayed until late in the afternoon. He watched the Tigers’ spring game and spent a lot of time with defensive backs coach Greg Brown.

“I also talked to Coach (Kevin) Steele and coach Gus Malzahn,” Sherwood said. “They’re good people to be around. I was here all day and with them all day and I know I could be around them for four years.”

Sherwood received an offer from Auburn earlier in the week, which may have helped change his weekend plans. He sees opportunity at Auburn.

“With the type of player I am, I could see myself getting a lot of playing time,” Sherwood said. “They have two safeties graduating after this year.”

Sherwood left his first visit to Auburn with the Tigers among his top schools. He said his interest level in Auburn is “beyond high.”

“I’ll definitely be back after spring, maybe the end of May or early June,” Sherwood said. “Distance isn’t a problem.”

Sherwood plans to release a list of top schools in May. He would like to announce his commitment in August or September.

Rivals ranks Sherwood, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 190 pounds, the No. 22 safety in the 2018 class and No. 52 player in Florida.
