And it's a direct result of the new school's new coach.
Auburn, after hiring former Florida coach Will Muschamp as its new defensive coordinator, will now receive an official visit from Key.
"I talked to Coach Muschamp, Coach (Rodney) Garner and Coach (Gus) Malzahn, and I'll be visiting Auburn on Jan. 30," Key said.
The Tigers previously were not in contention.
"With Coach Muschamp there now, he's coming in and bringing his defense and it looks like a lot of fun to play in," Key said. "He said they really need pass rushers and that I could come in and help right away.
"I see myself being able to go in and play in the 8-man rotation early."
Key, 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, has been committed to South Carolina since June, but always has planned to visit other schools. He'll visit LSU on Jan. 16-18 and South Carolina on Jan. 23-25.
He also will reschedule a visit to Georgia, which he had initially planned to take Jan. 30.
"I'm about 75 percent committed (to South Carolina)," Key said. "I want to take some visits and be sure."
