AUBURN | Dontae Lucas knew something was up when Auburn coach Gus Malzahn invited him up to his office following Saturday's camp.

And it didn’t take long for the 2019 offensive lineman from Booker T. Washington in Miami, Fla., to hear some good news.

“He invited me to his room and said he liked the way I performed and wanted to offer. I was extremely happy at that moment. I told him thank you,” Lucas said.

“It’s great. It’s amazing. It made me feel pretty good. It showed me that my hard work is paying off. Me getting an offer from Auburn, which is a big school, made me feel good.”

Lucas spent a lot of time with Auburn offensive line coach Herb Hand during the camp.

“He’s a good coach and a pretty aggressive coach,” Lucas said. “He talked to me about my stance and stuff. I like a hard-working coach that will be hard on us. It just makes me better overall.”

Lucas, a rising sophomore, checked in at 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds Saturday and said he’s still growing. His father is 6-foot-8.

He describes his play as “tough, aggressive and hard working.”

Lucas also has offers from FAU and Temple.

“I’m going to take my time. I think junior year after the season I’ll let ya’ll know where I’m going,” he said.
