Total Recall: 2011's top plays, No. 22

As the start of the 2012 season nears, GamecockCentral.com's David Cloninger takes a look back at the top plays of 2011, South Carolina's finest year. The No. 1 play from last year will be revealed on Aug. 30, USC's season-opener.

NO. 22: Don't Call Me Holly

The game: Florida at No. 15 South Carolina, Nov. 12

The scene: South Carolina 0, Florida 0, 8:04, first quarter

The cast: Spur Sharrod Golightly, Florida running back Jeff Demps

The setup: The Gamecocks were again slow out of the gate, doing nothing after recovering a fumble on Florida's first possession and then throwing an interception. That turned into a Gator possession, beginning at USC's 48-yard-line.

Relying exclusively on Demps, Florida moved to the USC 21 before Chris Rainey broke loose on a 19-yard jaunt. Antonio Allen chased him down and recorded the tackle before Rainey could score.

The play: Backed against their goal line, USC stacked the line and summoned Golightly, a redshirt freshman, into the game. Despite only having four tackles for the season and mostly a special-teams performer, Golightly was sent in as an extra man on the edge with a simple instruction - "Blitz."

John Brantley took the snap and turned to hand off to Demps as Golightly sprinted through a wide-open hole that appeared when Florida's linemen picked up other defenders. Before Demps could get his eyes trained forward, Golightly dove, knocking Demps' feet from under him and recording a 4-yard tackle for loss.

The aftermath: Inspired by the bench strength, USC's defense regrouped as the Williams-Brice Stadium crowd roared its approval. Florida again tried a run for Demps, but Allen stopped him after one yard, and a Brantley completion to Deonte Thompson was stopped by D.J. Swearinger at the 3-yard-line. The Gators settled for a field goal and a 3-0 lead.

USC scored two touchdowns before halftime to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish, and won 17-12 for its first two-game winning streak over Florida.
