It was announced on Monday that Kansas football's Big 12 opener and homecoming game against Iowa State on Oct. 10 will kickoff at 11:30 a.m. and be televised on Versus. The pre-noon kickoff will be KU's third straight.
Reesing dropped the ball
In the second half of last week's game, Todd Reesing was called for a questionable unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. After the play was over, Reesing had inadvertently dropped the ball on a Southern Mississippi player's face who was lying on the ground.
The referee thought Reesing had done it on purpose.
"I am not disputing anything but I talked to Todd and he said that was not the case," Mark Mangino said. "It's not a big deal."
Sharp expected to return
Running back Jake Sharp is expected back for Kansas' next game against Iowa State. In his absence the last two games, true freshman Toben Opurum did a solid job filling in for the senior running back.
Mangino said Sharp is still unquestionably the starter when he returns.
"Now we have some options," Mangino said. "We can rest [Sharp] a little more and we have played with some two backs in the backfield in the past but it is good to know we have a couple of top notch running backs we can rotate."
After giving up 28 points in three quarters, the Kansas defense pulled it together in the fourth quarter and held Southern Miss scoreless.
"The key is for our defense is they kept their poise and didn't get rattled," Mangino said. "It was good to play good stiff competition like Southern Miss. They are a very impressive ballclub. I would say when you play a team like that and then you get a week off before conference play you have a chance to make all the necessary adjustments before we play Iowa State."
