Getting to know: Devin Street

Pitt's 2009 signees will be arriving on campus in a month, and before they arrive, PantherLair.com is taking a closer look at each one of the incoming freshman You probably already know what position each recruit plays and how tall he is; now we're looking at the young man and what he'll bring to the University of Pittsburgh, not just the football team.

Today Pantherlair.com takes a look at Devin Street.

Getting to know: Devin Street
After recording 49 catches for 822 yards and 8 touchdowns as part of Liberty's state championship team last season, Street was named second team all-state and first team all-area. He was also selected to play in the Big 33 Football Classic this summer, and Street should give Pitt long-term contributions at receiver.

What was the most memorable moment of your high school career?
State championships senior year. That was a good way to go out.

What college or NFL player do you try to model your game after?
Michael Crabtree. I like how he plays. He's hard working.

Who has helped you the most in your development as a football player?
My father, ever since I was young.

What was the biggest reason you picked Pitt?
Coaching staff, start right there. I fell in love with Coach Bo.

What are you looking forward to the most about Pitt? The overall atmosphere, the gameday, and the history Pitt has.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to draw a lot, spend time with my family; my brother, my mom and my dad. I spend a lot of time with my family. Family always comes first.

What do you see yourself doing after Pitt?
Of course the NFL is the big goal, but you always have to have a backup plan. I'd like to have a large family living out in California.

What are you planning to major in at Pitt?
Business Medical administration. I'd like to run a hospital one day.

What are the biggest things you need to work on when you get to Pitt?
Probably my size. I need to get in the weight room. Everything else is there: my hands, the speed, the route running. I'm going to work on getting bigger and learning the system.

What are some of your goals for your time at Pitt?
Mainly, to get on the field as soon as possible. I'm looking to start my sophomore year. I want to have a successful career. I'm going to work my hardest. I want to win the Biletnikoff Award my senior year. After that, a career in football.

What would you like Pitt fans to know about you as a player and a person?
I'm a humble guy, hard working. I always do what's right for the team. I never put myself above anyone. I'll never be a T.O. I love playing the game.

What is something people might be surprised to know about you?
I cut all my buddies hair. People don't expect that, but that's what I do. I hook them up.
