Aggies back in the NCAAs for fourth year

A month ago Texas A&M was in jeopardy of missing the NCAA tournament for the first time in four years, but after a six-game win streak to close out the regular season the Aggies are dancing once again. But A&M is in a very familiar position in an odd sort of déjà vu.

Just like last season, A&M will be heading to the West region as the No. 9 seed where the Aggies will face the No. 8 seed BYU, which just so happens to be the same team the Aggies faced in the first round of the NCAA tournament last year. A&M beat BYU, 67-62.

The location, however, isn't anywhere near Anaheim. Instead, A&M and BYU will face off at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on Thursday.

The winner of A&M-BYU will face the winner of top-seed Connecticut and No. 16 seed Chattanooga.

With A&M heading to the NCAA tournament for the fourth consecutive season, A&M senior small forward Josh Carter becomes the first Aggie player in school history to play in four NCAA tournaments.

A&M is also one of just 16 teams to play in the NCAA tournament in each of the last four years. The Aggies are also just one of eight teams to win a game in the NCAA tournament in each of the last three seasons, joining North Carolina, UCLA, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Georgetown, Texas and Memphis.

The Aggies are also one of just four teams to win a postseason game in each of the last four seasons. The others are North Carolina (4 NCAA), Georgetown (1 NIT, 3 NCAA) and Memphis (1 NIT, 3 NCAA).
