Granger will miss BCS title game
DeMarcus Granger's injuries have finally caught up to him. OU Head Coach Bob Stoops confirmed this afternoon that Granger will miss the BCS National Championship game after undergoing back surgery.Oklahoma tackle
The injury bug hit DeMarcus in early August when back problems and conditioning issues cause the junior defensive tackle to miss several two-a-day practices.
Granger's run of bad luck continued three games into the season when OU traveled to Washington. In retaliation to a play earlier in the game, three Husky players gang tackled Granger causing a tear to a ligament in his left foot.
Despite being told that the rehab would take up most of the regular season, Granger was able to make it back for several snaps for OU's Red River Rivalry game against Texas.
Since then his play has diminished more with each passing week.
Grangers back problems became so bad over the last month that the tackle did not participate in the Big 12 Championship game in Kansas City two weeks ago.
Granger's surgery was performed Monday and OU Head Athletics Trainer Scott Anderson said that Granger will likely miss spring practice while recovering.
"Our doctors and training staff have worked extensively with DeMarcus and it was finally determined that surgery was necessary," Stoops said. "We're disappointed for DeMarcus and are certainly anxious to do everything we can to assist his recovery."
