Players arrested for Union brawl, no suspensions

Two weeks ago five Florida State wide receivers were allegedly involved in a brawl with several members of a fraternity at the Student Union. On Wednesday afternoon, two FSU players were arrested in connection with that incident.

Redshirt freshmen Cameron Wade and Bert Reed were both arrested for misdemeanor battery in connection with the November 12th fight. The two Seminole players turned themselves in to the Leon County Jail, posted a $500 bond and were released.

Wade and Reed, along with three other players, were suspended from playing in the November 15th football game against Boston College for their roles in the fight. Despite the recent arrests, head coach Bobby Bowden made it clear that no further suspensions would be forthcoming for this Saturday's game against Florida.

"They (Reed and Wade) are going to be available. They've been disciplined," Bowden said after Wednesday's practice.

While their legal cases are still pending, at least the two Seminole receivers now know where they stand on the field. Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher hopes that his receivers will be able to put the incident behind them and be more focused.

"At least now we know what the consequences are and the results from the findings," Fisher said. "Now we can move on. Hopefully, as crazy as it sounds, maybe that will put them at ease with what's going to happen."

A press release issued by Florida State stated that the fight is still being investigated and FSU Police Department is still attempting to identify the person responsible for throwing a chair that struck a female student bystander and caused serious injury. This is according to FSU Police Chief David Perry.
