Clark earns conference honor
Daryll Clark has earned the Big Ten's Co-Offensive Player of the Week award. He shared the award this week with Purdue's Curtis Painter. For the second time this season, Penn State senior quarterback
Clark threw for a career-high 341 yards and four touchdowns on 16-of-26 passing, and scored a rushing touchdown to lead the Nittany Lions to a 49-18 win over visiting Michigan State. The win clinched the Big Ten title for the Nittany Lions.
His 341 passing yards were the sixth-highest total ever by a Penn State quarterback, and the Nittany Lions's 419 passing yards were a school record. He averaged 21.3 yards per completion on the day.
"I don't know whether it's his best performance but it certainly was a good one," Lions' head coach Joe Paterno said after the game. "I was a little bit annoyed with some of the things that some of you guys wrote and some other people said that he hadn't played that well. I kept trying to say, Hey, nobody's perfect.
"He's a fine athlete and a fine quarterback and a wonderful, wonderful guy, and a real leader. So, I was delighted he went out there and played the kind of football game we played today."
On the year, Clark has completed 171-of-285 passes for 2319 yards, and has thrown 17 touchdowns to only four interceptions. He has averaged 193.2 yards per contest. He has also scored nine touchdowns on the ground.
