Prospects out to improve at Todd Dodge camp

MORE: Dodge lays out recruiting philosophy | PHOTOS: Todd Dodge QB/WR Camp

DENTON, Texas - Prospect camps are in full swing on college campuses around the country. Coaches are evaluating, handing out offers and picking up commitments. But instruction is going on as well. At the Todd Dodge Quarterback/Receiver camp on the North Texas campus, a pure instructional session takes place that is limited to wide receivers and quarterbacks only.

Though the camp's purpose is more to teach than to evaluate, in the state of Texas talent always emerges. In the 2008 session, several prospects asserted themselves as names to watch as the fall season approaches.

One of the top passing quarterbacks in attendance was Hereford High School's Parker Bridwell, a 2010 prospect. With good size and a strong arm, Bridwell showed a lot of upside and tools that should be on display for a big junior season. A prospect to look for in the future is Lake Dallas athlete James Franklin. Franklin has already proven that he is an elite athlete by racking up loads of all-purpose yards as a sophomore but he used the opportunity at North Texas to hone his passing skills.

There were a number of receivers that stood out at the event as well.

Phillip Mitchell out of Hebron High School looks to be a legitimate Division I prospect out of the slot.

Johnathan Gazaille is a good-looking prospect ready to emerge from the shadows of a loaded 2008 class of receivers at Arlington Bowie.

• A familiar face is on the rise at Mesquite high school. Class of 2010 prospect Aaron Richards is the younger brother of class of 2008 Oklahoma State signee Adrian Richards and could develop into a similar highly rated prospect.

• At 6 feet 4 and close to 200 pounds, Michael Beach out of Dallas (Texas) W.T. White looked good in Denton and could develop into an athletic pass-catching tight end on the next level.

Todd Dodge has been running his quarterback/wide receiver camp for 17 years on both the college and the high school level. The event revealed some new names on the recruiting scene while also developing some players that will likely emerge in the 2008 season.
