Crawford to transfer

Shooting guard Jordan Crawford has informed the Indiana coaching staff that he won't be returning to the team next year.

"Jordan Crawford and his family informed us today that he will not return to Indiana University," Tom Crean said in a release from the university.

Crawford's departure leaves IU without any true returning scholarship players. He was the team's only remaining Kelvin Sampson recruit, as Brandon McGee, Jamarcus Ellis, DeAndre Thomas and Armon Bassett were all dismissed from the team this off-season. Eli Holman elected to transfer to Detroit after an incident in Crean's office last month.

That leaves only two returning players for the Hoosiers - walk-on Brett Finkelmeier and Kyle Taber. Taber was awarded a scholarship at the start of last season.

Crawford was Indiana's fourth-leading scorer last year with 9.7 points per game.

Should he transfer to another university, Detroit or Kentucky would be likely candidates. Former Sampson assistant Ray McCallum is now the head coach at Detroit, while Crawford's brother, Joe, is a recent graduate of Kentucky. Holman recently transferred to Detroit.
