- Wazzu athletic director, Jim Sterk, commenting on the eight scholarships the WSU football program lost in the latest APR [Academic Progress Rate] report.



Championship season continues at the Creek as track and field conference championships begin with the multi-event portion of the championships and the conference's 13 tennis teams in the NCAA tournament begin their post-season play this week.

An updated version [additions of ice hockey and gymnastics championships] of the 2007-08 Director's Cup standings were released and once again, 13-time defending champ Stanford is well out in front while the entire Pac-10 membership is represented in the Top 103 - including eight Pac-10 schools in the Top 35.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the APR [Academic Progress Report] was released and Washington State was the Pac-10's only football program to suffer scholarship penalties, losing eight, while USC lost two in men's basketball and Arizona lost one in men's indoor track.





Stanford

In men's hoop, forward Miles Plumlee was granted a release from his national letter of intent and will transfer to Duke.



Washington

In baseball, sophomore outfielder Kyle Conley has been named as the conference's player of the week.



California

In baseball, the Bears defeated UC-Davis in a non-conference game to improve to 30-15-2 overall and remain 9-9 in conference play.



Oregon

In football, the Ducks signed JC quarterback Jeremiah Masoli.

In women's hoop, Velaida Harris was named as an assistant coach.



Arizona

In men's hoop, assistant coach Miles Simon did not have his contract renewed and the NBA's Denver Nuggets assistant Mike Dunlap is reported to be the new associate head coach.



Arizona State

In football, the Sun devils received a commitment from quarterback/tight end Brock Osweiler.

In women's hoop, freshman forward Stephanie Wilber has left the team.

In men's golf, the Sun Devils won the conference championship, defeating USC.



Oregon State

In men's golf, the Beavers earned an NCAA bid and will travel to Bremerton, Washington where they were seeded 14th in the West region.



USC

In men's hoop, the Trojans lost two scholarships as part of their penalty for poor APR [Academic Progress Report] performance.



WSU

In track and field, Wazzu swept rival Washington in the Apple Cup meet with the women winning, 116-47, and the men triumphing, 93-70.

In baseball, Wazzu won the series from Oregon State and defeated BYU to improve to 25-20 overall and 5-10 in conference play with a 21 RPI.

In rowing, the third-ranked Wazzu varsity eight defeated Oregon State.

In football, the Cougars lost eight scholarships as part of a penalty for poor APR performance.



UCLA

In men's hoop, freshman Chace Stanback has left the program and will transfer.
