James adds new offer, hearing from many

One of the players that stood out at the Rivals.com Five Star Academy at Baton Rouge last weekend was St. Thomas More wide receiver Jordan James.

He definitely looks the part of big-time receiver, standing a legit 6-foot-3 and over 200 pounds. His highlight video confirms his ability and explains why Tulane has already offered him a scholarship. There will be many more to follow suit.

To date in St. Thomas More's balanced offense, the sure-handed James has not been treated as a featured receiver. He had just 39 receptions for 600 yards as a junior. Those numbers will likely increase his senior season. But his considerable athletic ability is not his only asset.

"I love the game of football, No. 1," James said. "I really like to make big plays to help my team out and help my teammates get better. A lot of people don't value blocking at the receiver position, but that's something I really take pride in. My coach stresses that a lot."

Aside from the Tulane offer, James said that he is receiving letters from several other programs: USC, Texas, LSU, Oregon, NC State, Clemson, Auburn, Notre Dame, Northwestern and Southern Miss, to name a few.

"I went to (Tulane's) camp this summer and they said they were really impressed," James said. "I know for a fact that I'm going to go to LSU (camp) and I will probably go back to Tulane. I'm thinking hard about Auburn, A&M and probably Notre Dame."

James will likely be spot played on the defensive side of the ball his senior year. He will play safety, which is traditionally where Cougars' defensive coordinator Terry Tidwell likes to play the team's best all-around athlete.

James, whose father, Calvin, played tight end at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, is excited about the prospects of his senior year and the team.

"We really will have a lot of experience because we've had people playing since they were sophomores," James said. "We're going to have a lot of experience across the board. People better be ready because we're going to have a lot of skill, too, on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball."
