"Normal reinstatement guidelines call for a withholding condition of 20 percent of competition based on the dollar value of the two tickets, to a charity of his choice as a condition. However, when determining the specifics of this individual case, the NCAA staff determined that repayment without withholding from competition was warranted since the university provided information that the student-athlete first asked his coach if he could accept the tickets offered to him and was [mistakenly] told it would be permissible."

Hoops season continues at the Creek and both men's and women's teams are still populating the national rankings as seven conference teams are receiving votes with three teams [Washington State, UCLA and Stanford] in the men's Top 25 and two more [Stanford and California] are in the women's Top 25.
The Pac-10 Women's Basketball Tournament will feature "Ladies Night Out" [March 8] and "Dads and Daughters" [March 9] events during the post-season tournament.
Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the NCAA has determined that USC freshman men's hoop guard O.J. Mayo will not be required to miss any competition this season for accepting free tickets to an NBA game, a secondary rules violation.
In men's hoop, the Wildcats swept WSU and Washington to improve to 14-6 overall and 4-3 in Pac-10 play with a 7 RPI.
In men's hoop, 9th-ranked Wazzu lost to Arizona and beat Arizona State to move to 17-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play with a 10 RPI.
In football, the Cougars received verbal commitments from athlete Kevin Frank, defensive linemen Anthony Laurenzi, Cory MacKay and Bernard Wolfgramm and tight end Adam Coerper. Defensive back/receiver Cornorris Atkins has transferred to Western Arizona College.
In women's hoop, the Cougars lost to Arizona and Arizona State to drop to 3-17 overall and 0-9 in Pac-10 play with a 285 RPI.
In tennis, 43rd-ranked Wazzu defeated BYU to remain undefeated at 3-0 on the season.
In women's volleyball, the Sun Devils hired BYU head coach Jason Watson as the new head coach at ASU.
In men's hoop, the Ducks were swept by UCLA and USC to fall to 12-8 overall and 3-5 in Pac-10 play with a 51 RPI.
In men's hoop, the Huskies beat Arizona State but lost to Arizona to move to 12-8 overall and 3-4 in Pac-10 play with an 88 RPI.
In football, safety Sean Westgate de-committed from Arizona and gave a verbal commitment to the Bruins.
In men's hoop, freshman center Kevin Love was named as the conference's player of the week.
In football, the Trojans received verbal commitments from running back Brian Baucham - who de-committed from WSU - and quarterback Matt Barkley.
In men's hoop, Connecticut guard Marcus Johnson will transfer to USC and be eligible to play in December.
In women's hoop, the Bears lost to rival Stanford and dropped to17-3 overall and 8-1 in Pac-10 play with a 17 RPI.
In women's hoop, senior guard Candice Wiggins was named as the conference's player of the week.
In football, the Beavers cornerbacks coach Nigel Burton left to become defensive coordinator at Nevada and Oregon State hired former player Keith Heyward from Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.
