Rivals5: Shocking commitment changes

Announcement Watch | Rivals5: Super sleepers | Rivals5: State battles

Every year there seems to be a growing number of high-profile prospects who commit to one school only to change their mind later in the process. While there are a number of factors that influence each individual situation, it doesn't make it any less shocking when the stars switch allegiances especially to fans of the programs that secured the original commitment.

Rivals.com's Mike Farrell looks at five of the most shocking commitment changes from this recruiting cycle, all from Rivals100 prospects.

Rivals5: Shocking Switches
Omar Hunter, DT, Buford, Ga.
Current commitment: Florida

Original commitment: Notre Dame

Hunter was committed to Notre Dame for the longest time and while schools continued to show interest, he seemed to remain solid. But like with Justin Trattou last year, the lure of the Gators proved to be too much.

A.J. Harmon, OG, Louisville (Ga.) Jefferson County
Current commitment: Georgia

Original commitment: Clemson

Harmon committed to Clemson early and few expected the turn of events that occurred down in San Antonio at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. His commitment to Georgia shows just how hard it is to get top in-state talent away from the Dawgs.

Trevor Robinson, OG, Omaha (Neb.) Elkhorn
Current commitment: Notre Dame

Original commitment: Nebraska

An elite Nebraska offensive lineman commits to the Huskers. Nothing new there, right? What is new is that Robinson de-committed and decided to head to South Bend to play his college ball. Even with a coaching change rumored most of the year in Lincoln, that still shouldn't happen.

Jonas Gray, RB, Detroit (Mich.) Country Day
Current commitment: Notre Dame

Original commitment: Nebraska

Yet another Nebraska de-commit, Gray felt he was a nice fit in the Huskers offense and would learn under a staff with plenty of NFL experience. But once it became apparent that Bill Callahan and his staff wouldn't be around beyond this season, he decided he wanted to learn under another head coach with NFL ties Charlie Weis.

Patrick Johnson, CB, Pompano Beach (Fla.) Ely
Current commitment: LSU

Original commitment: Miami

Johnson had been flirting with many teams since his commitment to Miami but for him to de-commit and eliminate the 'Canes upon his arrival in San Antonio for the U.S. Army All American Bowl was a shocker. LSU was the choice in the end and the Tigers are getting the nation's top cornerback.
