Coaches are still after Carr
Nigel Carr - happens to be off the board already due to a commitment to Florida State.Northeast Florida doesn't possess the top echelon of talent that it has in year's past. There are no five star candidates such as C.J. Spiller, Tim Tebow or James Wilson. As a matter of fact, there's but a single Rivals100 member in the region (Xavier Brewer) - and a grand total of only three Rivals250 prospects - and one of those - Jacksonville (Fla.) First Coast linebacker
"I felt like there was no need to drag it out. I wanted to focus on my grades and a state championship," said Carr. "Florida State was the place for me to go."
That commitment however hasn't caused other programs to back off of him.
"Steve Spurrier was here earlier (Monday) and Urban Meyer came by last week. There's a lot of schools coming - Miami, Tennessee - still trying to talk to me.
Although he is solidly committed to the Seminoles, he says that he doesn't mind coaches still attempting to recruit him.
"They can keep trying. I know in my heart I want to go to Florida State. I'm not going ask anybody not to call me. I just let them know before we start talking that I'm committed."
Carr was then asked what Spurrier and Meyer have had to say to him.
"They tell me they aren't going to give up on me - they still text me all the time. They tell me that if I have a change of heart to let them know."
Although he isn't currently on the list, with his size (around 6-foot-1 ½, 230-pounds), speed and overall athletic ability, look for Carr to make a serious run at top 100 status when the list is next updated this summer.
The strong side linebacker headlines a Buccaneer defense that could see up to six players sign with a Division-I program in February.
