Hicks in action
Participating in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl will be something novel for Jacksonville (Fla.) Forrest linebacker Brandon Hicks.
"I feel pretty good about it," Hicks said. "It's something I'm really looking forward to right now. I've never been in any all-star game, ever. It will be my first time."
Hicks will play for the East squad in the event, which will kick off at 5 p.m. Jan. 4 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The game will be televised live by ESPNU. Rivals.com is the official selection partner for the event.
"It is something I plan on stepping up to," he said. "I am one of those people that will step up to the challenge no matter what. If you challenge me, I am going to challenge you back."
As one of many talented Floridians on the East roster, Hicks is looking forward to competing with the talent from his state in practice and playing with his fellow Floridians in the game.
"It's going to be pretty challenging," he said. "Florida has a lot of speed. We're going to see how much speed they have the week of the game."
Hicks isn't the only linebacker selected that hails from the Sunshine State. Bushnell South Sumter linebacker Kendall Smith, a Florida State commit, also was selected.
Hicks had more than 45 tackles and nine sacks this season.
On the recruiting front, Hicks is considering Florida, Miami (Fla.), Nebraska, Clemson, LSU, Michigan and others.
"Recruiting is going good," he said. "I'm not doing too much of that right now."
