Despite receiving many accolades and being one of the most highly touted offensive guard prospects in the country, Michael Huey was still excited when he got the call.

The Kilgore, Texas standout has been selected for the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., which will be televised by ESPNU. Huey, the offensive lineman who is labeled as a "nasty" player with a "brawler mentality" said he is excited about testing his skills against the country's best.

Five facts about Michael Huey
His personal hero: His father
His hobbies are: Golf, bowling, and fishing
His favorite website: Orangebloods.com
What he wants to accomplish in life: Own my own business and help others
In college, he plans to major in: Architectural engineering
"After the season was over, I got the call about the all-star game and it got me feeling better," Huey said. "I thought after my senior year, that would be it. I'm very excited for this game though. I'm trying to do everything I can to show everyone in the nation how good I am."

That everything means working out daily. His father says that "he's working out all the time" and "it's like football never ended for him."

Huey says there is a purpose to all of this.

"There is a lot to prove in this game," Huey said. "This game is a pride game. I want to prove to everyone that I deserve to be ranked higher than what I already am maybe even the No. 1 guy."

On film and in games, it's easy to see that Huey embodies the phrase "play to the whistle." However, Huey's coach Mike Vallery and the rest of the Kilgore staff have another phrase.

"Our coaches say 'Don't just play to the whistle,' they say 'Play to the echo of the whistle,' " Huey said. "Out there I have no friends and it allows me to get down and dirty."

After the all-star game, Huey will take his services to the University of Texas. Huey is graduating early, so he'll be on the UT campus for spring practice. That should allow him to get a head-start on the other incoming freshman.

"I wanted to go to a school that is a winning team, and that's Texas for you right there," Huey said. "(Going early) really allows me to get a jump-start on everybody. I want to get things rolling. Hopefully I can play as soon as possible, but if I redshirt that's fine by me as well."
