Baton Rouge Nike Preview
The 2006 Baton Rouge NIKE Camp will feature some of the top prospects from the Pelican State for the class of 2007.
It comes as no surprise that most of the prospects will hail from Louisiana, especially given the amount of talent that state produces year-in and year-out, but there will also be top-notch prospects from Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas heading to the camp to test their skills against the best.OFFENSE
Make no mistake about the position that catches the eye when you glance at the list of expected prospects. The wide receiver field is flat-out loaded.
Pre-evaluation Rivals100 prospect Ahmad Paige from Sterlington (La.) has scholarship offers from throughout the Southeast, including Florida State, LSU, Georgia and others. The 6-foot-3 burner will get a chance to test his skills against some of the best defensive backs from the region.
Mobile (Ala.) UMS-Wright burner Brandon Gibson is another prospect that has been attracting a ton of attention from colleges. He figures to be one of the top prospects in Alabama for the class of 2007 and will get a chance to prove it on Sunday.
Todderick Bajoie from Catholic Point Coupee (La.) is a prospect multiple programs are high on. His biggest strengths are his speed and ability to catch the ball in traffic. He has very high upside and will get a chance to impress Sunday.
Quarterback Dallas Walker from Madison (Miss.) Ridgeland Academy attended the Elite 11 workout on Friday night at Georgia Tech in Atlanta and looked solid. The 6-foot-4 signal caller shows an ability to run on film and showed that he is able to stand in the pocket and deliver in drills. He will continue to see his stock rise should he keep performing as he did Friday on Sunday.
Though he projects as cornerback or safety, Mobile (Ala.) B.C. Rain's Elliott McGaskin is an intriguing prospect that's working out at running back. He will be one to keep an eye on.
Pre-evaluation Rivals100 member Alex Williams, an Ole Miss commit from New Orleans O.P. Walker, will get a chance to show his skills. Williams missed all of last football season because of Hurricane Katrina, so it will be interesting to see how his development has gone.
Mobile (Ala.) B.C. Rain's Rodney Hudson is a player that shows a lot of promise and upside on film. Chaz Ramsey, Kyle Plouhar and Caleb Thomas are three other names to watch among the offensive lineman.
Cory Bailey of Brookhaven (Miss.) Academy is a sleeper to keep an eye on along the offensive line.DEFENSE
Destrehan (La.) defensive back Edwin Reed, the younger brother of former Miami (Fla.) and current NFL standout Ed Reed highlights the defensive backs and will get a chance to show off his coverage skills.
LSU commitment Barry Valcin of Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial is another player to watch among the defensive backs.
The defensive line will feature several highly-regarded prospects. Will Blackwell and Luther Davis of West Monroe (La.) are expected to be in attendance. Lutcher's Rolando Melancon also is a prospect to watch at that position.
A sleeper at defensive tackle could be River Ridge (La.) John Curtis space eater Jonathan English. The 6-foot-1, 300-pounder is one of the more active interior defensive line prospects in the New Orleans area.
One of the top linebacker prospects to keep an eye on is safety Chad Jones from Baton Rouge Southern Lab. Jones is one of the top prospects at his position in the Southeast. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder is the brother of LSU's Al Jones.
Another top linebacker prospect to keep an eye on is pre-evaluation Rivals100 prospect Stefoin Francois of Reserve (La.) East Saint John. Francois could also work out with the defensive backs.
