2008 Florida OT on the radar
Matt Patchan definitely has the pedigree to be a great player at the college level. Only going into his junior year this fall, there is still a lot of room for the 2008 prospect to grow.TAMPA, Fla. - With a father who had a career in the NFL, the 6-foot-6, 250-pound
Playing mostly offensive tackle, Patchan will now make a switch before his junior season to the tight end position where the ball can get in his hand. Patchan says that the transition should be too hard.
"Well, it's not that much of a change," Patchan said. "You just have to catch the ball and I have that ability. The tackle position has helped me out a lot. I've blocked against some of the better people in the country which has prepared me."
Patchan says he grew up a fan of the Miami Hurricanes for most of his life, but he isn't limited to only looking at them when his recruitment rolls around.
As for now, Pathcan has his sights set on several teams.
"I'll look at other teams like Texas, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and all of those," Patchan said. "I just have been a fan of Miami since I was a little kid. They did just lose to LSU though, so I'm keeping my options open."
One other thing that Patchan will focus on during his recruitment is making sure to give everyone a fair shot.
"I want to make sure I'm nice to every coach and I give every team a chance when that time comes," he said. "I know some guys who have given schools the cold shoulder for a while. I don't want to do things like that.
"I'll give everyone a look."
Patchan says his goal going into his senior year is to make the all-state team and help his teammates get to the playoffs.
