Chism takes over

Wayne Chism and Willie Kemp and Bolivar Central are headed for a quarterfinal match up in the Tennessee state tournament against Thaddeus Young and Brandon Powell and Mitchell High School. Chism provided 11 points in the fourth quarter to break open a very close game for a 54-47 victory over David Lipscomb High School.

Wayne Chism-21 points on 8 of 14 shooting from the field including 0 fo 2 from the arc and 5 of 6 from the line, 12 rebounds, 6 blocks, 2 assists and 1 turnover-Chism dominated the paint throughout the game. He scored to both shoulders against double and triple teams while making it very difficult for Lipscomb to score in the paint. He had some very nice dump off passes against the extra defensive attention that his teammates did not always finish. Defended well on the perimeter as well. Most impressive was how he hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch once Lipscomb started fouling when down two with less than a minute left. Will need to amp up his RPM's for the Bruce Pearl system although he and Kemp did play all 32 minutes of the game.

Willie Kemp-14 points on 5 of 9 shooting including 0 of 1 from the arc and 2 of 4 from the line, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 4 assists and 3 turnovers-Kemp controlled the ball for Bolivar Central and played his typical cerebral and winning basketball. He made, perhaps, his biggest impact on the game with his quick hands and defensive presence. Will need to get stronger for the next level.

Josh Slater-15 points on 4 of 11 shooting including 1 of 2 from the arc and 6 of 7 from the line, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 4 assists and 3 turnovers-The Lipscomb University 2007 commitment showed a great deal of poise handling the ball against the relentless Bolivar Central pressure. The lefty is very comparable to Kemp offensively, but he lacks the hand quickness and defensive prowess of Kemp. He has a very good feel for the game and is an excellent pick up for Lipscomb. Definitely needs to get stronger for the next level.
