Barrett earns SEC Freshman of the Week honors
Rasheem Barrett was named SEC Freshman of the Week as he had back-to-back career games with 19 points vs. Winthrop and 28 points vs. Jacksonville State, triggering 13-point comebacks forAuburn's
wins in both games.
Barrett averaged 23.5 points while shooting 65 percent from the field, 63 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the foul line.
Barrett's back-to-back career-high games led Auburn to a pair of 13-point come-from-behind wins over Winthrop and Jacksonville State.
"Rasheem was terrific against both Jacksonville State and Winthrop," Auburn head coach Jeff Lebo said. "It was an outstanding week for our freshmen. Not only was Rasheem impressive, but Josh (Dollard) had 29 points vs. Jacksonville State and Vot (Barber) had the game-winning tip-in vs. Winthrop."
Barrett had 19 points, including a 14-0 second half run by himself, in the 64-62 victory over Winthrop Thursday. Auburn trailed by 13 points with 18:25 remaining. The Atlanta, Ga., native bettered his previous game with 28 points in 26 minutes in the 87-83 win over Jacksonville State Saturday. The Tigers trailed by 13 points with 16:36 to play against the Gamecocks.
"This is a great honor, but I am more happy that we were able to get wins in both of our games," Barrett said. "It doesn't
matter what we do individually. We come out as a team, and we win as a team."
Barrett is the only Tiger to score in double figures in the last five games, averaging 15.6 points.
