Two Tigers named SEC Players of the Week

Auburn linebacker Travis Williams and running back Brad Lester were named Southeastern Conference Players of the Week, announced the league office on Monday. The awards mark the fourth consecutive week an Auburn player has been named an SEC Player of the Week.

Williams, a senior from Columbia, S.C., was named the SEC Defensive Player of the week as he led the Tigers with 11 tackles, including five for a loss, a forced fumble and a half-sack in Auburn's 48-7 victory over South Carolina. The forced fumble, deep in Gamecock territory, led to an Auburn field goal.

Williams' five tackles for a loss is a career-best and his 11 total tackles, including nine in the first half, is his second-highest career mark. The Auburn defense allowed just 199 yards of total offense from South Carolina with 70 of those yards coming on the ground.

Lester was awarded SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season, leading Auburn with 53 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns. In addition to his rushing performance, Lester had a kickoff return for 43 yards and a pass reception for five yards in the win. The freshman was also honored earlier this season for his performance against Ball State on Sept. 17.

Last week, Blake Field was named Freshman of the Week, Lester was named Freshman of the Week on Sept. 19 and Will Herring earned Defensive Player of the Week honors Sept. 10, starting Auburn's string of four straight weekly honors.

The Tigers will have a bye week Oct. 8 and will return to action Saturday, Oct. 15 at Arkansas.
