Auburn swept by No. 3 LSU

TWITTER- FACEBOOK-

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Auburn baseball team couldn't avoid a series sweep on Sunday, falling to No. 3 LSU 8-2 at Alex Box Stadium. The loss dropped Auburn to 15-9, 0-6 SEC while LSU is now 22-2, 5-1 SEC.

"You give a team five outs in first inning and good teams are going to take advantage of that," Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski said. "We gave them a couple of extra outs that inning. Throw in a couple of walks and a couple of hits and that's a big inning and we are down 4-0 right out of the chute. That made it really tough today."

For the third straight game, LSU jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring four times in the first. All nine LSU hitters stepped to the plate in the inning despite just one ball leaving the infield. Auburn starter Will Kendall (0-1) faced seven of the LSU hitters and was charged for all four runs, allowing three hits and walking two in 2/3 of an inning.

LSU would out-score Auburn, 9-0, in the first inning of the three games combined.

LSU starter Cody Glenn (4-1) picked up the win, logging 7 2/3 innings and allowing just two runs on six hits and two walks, striking out two.

Auburn's first run came in the second when Garrett Cooper doubled to right and scored on a Blake Austin single, which made it 4-1 LSU at the time.

A Ryan Tella sac fly in the top of the eighth with the bases loaded made it 8-2, scoring Mitchell Self, who had walked.

Cullen Wacker finished the day 1-for-3 for Auburn, extending his hitting streak to a career-best 10 games with a third-inning single.

Mark Laird, Alex Bregman and Mason Katz would all finish the afternoon with three hits for LSU while Raph Rhymes and Chris Chinea each drove in two runs.

Auburn concludes its five-game road trip on Tuesday when it visits Troy. First pitch is set for 6pm from Riddle-Pace Field.
