Rivals Camp Orlando: Notebook
LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour rolled into the Sunshine State on Saturday, and Southeast recruiting analyst Kynon Codrington has all of the latest news and notes from the day's event.
Rivals100 inside linebacker Kain Daub is still holding firm on Alabama and Florida State as his top two. He is taking a visit to Tallahassee on Monday to meet with the coaches. The 'Noles have to be feeling good about their chances, and a commitment could come before summer.
Four-star outside linebacker Dillon Bates is heading to Tuscaloosa on April 6 to check out the Tide. Bates doesn't claim a leader at this point. Texas has offered to go with several others. However, the SEC could be home to the tough defender, especially with his father, Bill Bates, having played at Tennessee. New coach Butch Jones is working hard to get the Vols legacy to Knoxville.
Winter Park (Fla.) defensive end Trent Harris has Florida as his clear-cut favorite. Florida State trails, and he wants to take a trip to Alabama this spring. He plans on making his decision on May 24 after his spring game.
Trey Marshall went on record to say Florida State is out front, but keep an eye out on Georgia and Louisville. The Cardinals' successful 2012 season could help with Marshall, but FSU is still a major player.
Athletic running back Trevaughn Rodriguez holds eight offers, including Duke and Wake Forest. However, he wants to hear from Miami and says if the 'Canes offered he would commit on the spot.
Greg Miclisse named Tennessee as his leader. Notre Dame was his favorite early, and if the Irish offered that would give him something to think about. He took a recent visit to LSU, and he is still waiting on an offer from the Tigers.
Florida pledge Travaris Dorsey mentioned taking trips to North Carolina and Tennessee this spring. Dorsey may check out Georgia Tech and Louisville during the summer. It will be tough for those schools to flip him because he was doing the Gator Chomp during drills and talking about the Gators to other recruits.
Apopka (Fla.) offensive tackle Martez Ivey has offers from Florida, FSU and Ohio State, among others. The 2015 star should benefit from college coaches coming by to check out Zack Darlington this spring.
Kevin Toliver committed to LSU, but that hasn't stopped other schools from coming after him. Last week he took a trip to Florida. Florida State and Ohio State are trying to get him to campus for a visit. He is looking forward to getting to Baton Rouge to follow in the footsteps of Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu.
Outside linebacker Jeffrey Holland also took an unofficial visit to Florida last week with the previously mentioned Toliver. South Carolina is a team that he wants to check out. One of his former teammates plays in Columbia, and he likes how the Gamecocks use Jadeveon Clowney on defense.
Byron Cowart is a name that will be known on recruiting front by next fall. When asked about the schools he wanted to hear from, Cowart stated, "What defensive player wouldn't want to hear from Alabama?" Miami, Notre Dame, and USC were a few of the teams that checked on him last season. The Seffner (Fla.) Armwood standout has a chance to be a national recruit for the class of 2015.
