HD: Prosch taking ownership

Auburn senior fullback Jay Prosch discusses the team's expectations entering spring practice, and how being a senior has brought new leadership responsibilities in his quest to help change the culture around the Tigers' program.

ON SPRING PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS: I think we are trying to establish hard nosed football. We are learning more of the offense and learning the defense -- coming together as a team and getting back to hard nosed Auburn football and establishing ourselves.

ON CHANGING THE CULTURE FROM LAST SEASON: We're looking more at things we need to change, that's leadership and guys taking control of the team instead of coaches trying to control the team. Guys giving everything they've got every day, that's what we've been doing. With the new coaches there's new excitement. With Coach (Ryan) Russell, he came out with energy and it gave our guys energy. We want to do well with the new coaches, show them what we have. Guys have been working and we're looking at the future.

I have an obligation that this is my team. I'd feel more of that way if I'd been here my whole college experience, but after being here last year and feeling like I've earned some respect from the guys, I feel like this is my senior year and I'm going to do whatever I can to make it a successful year. That means taking control of the team. In workouts, encouraging guys, being vocal, bringing energy to the table was one of the most important things. Coming out early, we workout and guys are tired, you want to be the guy that's hopping around and ready to go. People look up to that. Leading by example and working hard, you can't be vocal and bring energy and then when we start, be slacking. It's a mixture of all those things.
