Gogue: 'It's a decision I have to make'
AUBURN -- Auburn University president Jay Gogue on Friday re-affirmed his stance that football coach Gene Chizik and athletic director Jay Jacobs won't be assessed until season's end.
Gogue's comments were his first since an October release acknowledging a flood of concern from fans while concurrently asking fans to continue supporting the team. He said Friday that his office still is receiving plenty of feedback.
"They're like all of us - they've been disappointed in the performance this year of the football team," Gogue said. "That's certainly legitimate. We all have. At the end of the season, we'll have a chance to sit down and review where we are."
Gogue said he will assess Jacobs on five criteria:
"It's a decision I have to make," he said. "The board is in the policy role and not into the hiring of individuals."
As for Chizik, who remains under contract through the 2015 season, Gogue said he'll listen to Jacobs' recommendation. That decision apparently will end at the president's desk as well.
