WR wants to finish 2012 like 2011 start

TWITTER- FACEBOOK-

Auburn fans got a glimpse of what Travante Stallworth is capable of during the early part of the 2011 season.

Stallworth started the season opener against Utah State and had four receptions for 93 yards and a 39-yard touchdown catch and run. His success continued with a team-high five catches for 71 yards against Clemson in week three. He was off to the best start of his college career.

"That was real big for me," Stallworth said. "A lot of people didn't believe in me, but I went out there and showed them what I could do. It was a huge confidence booster. It made my teammates look at me and say, 'Oh my God, I didn't know he could do things like that.'"

But following his performance against Clemson, Stallworth saw his productivity drop. He started the season with 10 receptions in the first three games, but finished with just three receptions over the last 10.

"It was tough, but the coaches had a plan and I just did what they asked me to do," he said. "I didn't want to be selfish."

Stallworth isn't the selfish type, but like any player, would like to contribute more. He believes he will get the opportunity in new offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler's pro-style scheme, the opportunity to finish his senior season in 2012 the way he started his junior campaign in 2011.

"I love him. He's a great guy, a great family guy and he just wants to win," Stallworth said of Loeffler. "He likes to have fun with us out there. He wants us to make plays, but also have fun while doing it. I like the attitude about him.

"I feel grateful I could make as many plays as I could (in 2011) and I want to show even more this year, add another chapter to the book and show more people what I can do."

Stallworth and the Tigers will get their first shot Sept. 1 in Atlanta. Auburn opens the season in the Georgia Dome against Clemson.
