GBK breaks out Army's 2012 Recruiting Class
GoBlackKnights.com continued to provide Army fans with the most up to date prospect tracker throughout the 2011-12 recruiting period. That included updates on Army commits as well as news on recruits the Black Knights were targeting.
But now the dust has finally started to settle relative to our projected number of incoming players for the 2012 Recruiting Class...
... Although it's never a complete go until Reception Day (R-Day) arrives.
GoBlackKnights.com is projecting that 11 prospects will be arriving into the program via the direct route. This number does not include the 35 players that we see making their way from the USMAPS.
Then you have another 35 (approximate) prospects who will be heading to the USMAPS for 2012.
In addition, there are several preferred walk-on players coming in direct that will attempt to make an impression this summer/fall.
Unlike last year, the current depth and talent on the Army roster will make it very challenging for an incoming frosh to make the 2 or even 3-deep, especially enduring the transition into West Point relatively difficult.
Offensively, this may be one the most talented and deepest squads in recent years. Add to that fact, a defensive that was very underclassmen orientated last season, which now translates to a 'young-seasoned' group.
This year's incoming class (2012) will be hard pressed to have many direct players who will offer immediate impact. Of course come summer, each will be given the opportunity to show their worth, therefore it is an exciting time for coaches and fans to see which freshmen will step up.
Leading the charge of the incoming direct group is 6-foot-2, 260-pound defensive tackle Evan Finnane, who Army's coaches feel could work his way onto the depth chart as a freshman.
However, there are a handful of players coming in from the USMAPS that have turned heads and could be thrown in the fire immediately.
At defensive tackle, 6-foot-0, 270 pound, Tala Atimalala has a chance to make some noise right out of the gate upon his arrival. TJ as he most commonly called, could push both Bobby Kough and Rich Glover for reps in the middle.
TIBITS: There are several younger siblings now joining their older brother as members of the Black Knights and the Long Gray Line.
