Rivals100 OT sets visit to Auburn
Puyallup (Wash.) offensive tackle Joshua Garnett, the No. 28 overall prospect and highest-ranked four-star recruit in the Rivals100, has scheduled an official visit to Auburn.
Garnett, 6-foot-5, 295 pounds, set the trip after an in-home visit from Auburn coach Jay Boulware on Wednesday.
"I'm going to Auburn Jan. 13-15," said Garnett. "Coach Boulware came by my house and I told him I'm coming down that weekend. I'm excited about visiting. I'm ready to go down there and see what SEC football is all about."
Garnett said Boulware spoke with his father and sister during the in-home visit.
"They liked him a lot," said Garnett. "They thought he was a real cool guy, and they also like the school a lot, too. My dad played college football at Washington so he knows all about college football and the experience I could have in the SEC. He knows all of the good players that come out of there.
"I was glad Coach Boulware came by because I definitely wanted to go down there and visit. I'm really looking forward to that visit."
Auburn offensive line coach Jeff Grimes wasn't with Boulware during the in-home visit, but Garnett said he and Grimes stay in contact. Grimes, Garnett said, was a reason for some of his success during his senior year.
"I talk to Coach Grimes a lot," said Garnett. "During my senior season, I asked him a couple of questions about my blocking technique and he told me some things that really helped me out.
"I started killing people the next couple of games just by using his tips. I was really taking it to some people on defense by doing what Coach Grimes told me."
In addition to his Auburn visit, Garnett has an official visit to Notre Dame scheduled for Dec. 9-11. He doesn't have any others set up at this time, but has a few schools he would like to add to the list.
"That's all the visits I have right now," said Garnett. "I'll probably set up some others soon.
"My top schools right now are Stanford, Michigan, Auburn, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Nebraska."
Garnett said he did not have a timetable for making a decision.
