Mike Mohamed Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society
California linebacker Mike Mohamed has been named a member of the 2011 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame announced Wednesday. Mohamed, who last week was chosen as a sixth-round pick of the Denver Broncos and the No. 189 overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, is already the recipient of a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award and an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship as one of 16 national finalists for the prestigious William V. Campbell Trophy also known as the "Academic Heisman."
He was also honored as a member of the Pac-10 All-Academic team for four consecutive seasons (2007-10), earning first-team recognition in each of his last three campaigns.
On the field, Mohamed's play led to his being named to three All-Pac-10 squads, earning a first-team selection as a junior, a second-team pick as a senior and an honorable mention choice as a sophomore. Mohamed led Cal with 95 tackles and ranked second in the Pac-10 with an average of 8.6 stops per contest last year, earning Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week honors for the fourth time in his career and honorable mention Linebacker Performer of the Week recognition from the College Football Performance Awards twice.
Mohamed finished his collegiate career fourth on Cal's all-time list with 340 tackles, while adding 20.0 tackles for loss (-81 yards), 7.0 sacks (-51 yards), seven interceptions (77 return yards) including two that he brought back for touchdowns, nine pass breakups, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and nine quarterback hurries.
