UCLA Pro Day Quick Hits
Yesterday prior to practice UCLA has their Pro Day where Bruins seniors get a chance to showcase their athleticism doing drills in hope of some to improve their draft status and for others to impress enough to at least get invited to a camp as a free agent.
Akeem Ayers had a better time than he did the NFL combine when clocked a 4.8 40-yard dash. Yesterday Ayers ran between a 4.7 and 4.76.
"I wanted to show I am a better athlete than I showed at the combine," Ayers said. "At the combine, I wasn't the type of player I am.
"I wanted to show I am a competitor," Ayers said. "That was what was most important.
"I did not want to settle for what I did. I wanted to come fight, and put up numbers that show I can compete.
"At the combine, it wasn't that I hadn't worked hard," Ayers said. "I busted my butt every day. It was more a body recovering thing, that was the only thing missing."
Kai Forbath had a very good showing. He was sending kickoffs deep into the end zone, and nailed almost all his field goals.
"I needed to show them my kickoffs, and I have been working hard on those," Forbath said. "I think I showed today that I can kickoff. You get to a certain point with stats, but you have to show them in person that you can perform under pressure."
Rahim Moore was also in attendance and did some agility drills, but did not do another 40. It was obvious that Moore has been putting in the work. He currently weighs 207 and has done a really good job putting his best foot forward in front of the scouts. He has definitely opened up some eyes and has enhanced his stock with the NFL.
Long snapper Christian Yount, offensive lineman Micah Kia, defensive tackle David Carter, offensive lineman Ryan Taylor, fullback Tobi Umodu, athlete Christian Ramirez, offensive guard Eddie Williams and offensive guard Darius Savage were also on hand trying to make an impression.
