Updated: Great way to start 2012
Dan Voltz's trip to Madison for the Wisconsin game against No. 1 Ohio State wasn't what tipped his recruitment in UW's favor, it was definitely the start.DEERFIELD, ILL. - If

"That was the first Wisconsin game I've ever been to and I was just completely blown away by the atmosphere," Voltz told BadgerBlitz.com in late October. "The whole stadium was just crazy, especially the student section. It was really a great atmosphere and exciting to watch and I'm sure to play in, too."
Just a few short months later, Voltz, a 6-foot-5, 289-pound offensive lineman, took it one step further by verbally committing to Bret Bielema and the Badgers. Voltz confirmed the news with Rivals.com after reports leaked earlier this afternoon. He is scheduled to make a public announcement at 7:00 p.m. this evening.
As one of the top players in the state of Illinois, the highly recruited offensive lineman is a fantastic start to UW's 2012 recruiting class. Voltz chose UW over 19 other offers including ones from Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Stanford, Tennessee and Arizona, among others.
Voltz made upwards of seven unofficial visits to Madison before committing. He will join a long line of successful players to have played on the UW offensive line. With guys such as Josh Oglesby and Kevin Zeitler set to begin their final season on the Badger football team, it seems there is some potential for Voltz, likely a four-star talent, to earn playing time early in his career.
UW defensive coordinator Chris Ash was the lead recruiter for Voltz. He is the first verbal commit in the 2012 class.
BadgerBlitz.com will have coverage of tonight's events at Core6 in Deerfield, Ill.
