Power rankings: No changes at top
A relatively uneventful weekend didn't produce much of shake-up in the BCS standings, so it should come as no surprise that it also didn't cause any changes at the top of the Rivals.com College Football Power Rankings, which measure the nation's top performers at each position.
Five of the 12 players or coaches atop their respective positions had the week off. The other seven played well enough to stay at the top of the rankings.
Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon remained our No. 1 receiver after catching 10 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in a 48-14 blowout of Kansas. Missouri's Michael Egnew solidified his status as the nation's No. 1 tight end with seven receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown in a 14-0 victory over Iowa State. Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi tightened his grip on the No. 1 position in the offensive line rankings by helping the Badgers gain 558 yards in a 48-28 rout of Michigan.
Our top defensive performers also justified their lofty rankings. Boston College's Luke Kuechly remained atop the linebacker charts after compiling 15 tackles -- one for loss -- and breaking up a pass in a victory over Clemson. LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson kept his spot as the No. 1 defensive back by breaking up two passes and making a clinching interception in a triumph over Ole Miss.
Boise State's 51-0 blowout of Fresno State allowed Chris Petersen to maintain his status as our No. 1 coach. Ohio State's Jim Heacock held on to the No. 1 spot in the defensive coordinator rankings after the Buckeyes' 20-17 victory over Iowa.
Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton, Oregon running back LaMichael James, Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley, Oregon punt returner Cliff Harris and Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn remained atop their respective positions after taking the weekend off.
The power rankings measure overall career performances as well as a player or coach's most recent results. The rating of a player and coach can fluctuate each week during the season depending on how he fared the previous week. Our coordinator rankings exclude coordinators who don't call their own plays or signals.
