BadgerSports second-team AA offense

MORE: BadgerSports Second-Team All-American Defensive Team

The BadgerSports Elite National 7on7 presented by New Level Athletics gets underway on Friday evening. Leading up to the event New Level Athletics released its Second-Team All-American Defensive Team on Wednesday. Thursday marks the release of the Second-Team All-American Offensive Team which will be followed by a Saturday announcement of the First-Team All-Americans as selected by New Level Athletics.

The offensive second team is a group that has truly earned their nominations with consistent effort on the camp circuit, competing and proving themselves in front coaches and scouts all over the country. The team is led by quarterback Max Wittek out of Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, a USC commitment.

The skill players around Wittek include running back Harvey Langi, wide receivers Kelvin Benjamin and Bill Belton as well as tight end Nick O'Leary. That core group of skill showcases a lot of talent and has made a strong impression on New Level Athletics co-founder Baron Flenory.

"I think it's a loaded group," said Flenory. "Watching Max Wittek perform, he's just got a laser. Harvey, the running back out of Utah, he just continues to perform wherever he goes. He came to our seven-on-seven and really lit it up.

"When you look at our receiver group, it varies. You have your burners in Belton and then you have a tall, rangy receiver in Benjamin. Then you have Nick O'Leary who I think could be a first-round draft pick in a few years. At the line we have maulers so I think that second-team offense really does showcase the top talent in the country.

Belton and Benjamin are certainly very different receivers. Belton is a 5-9 speedster committed to Pittsburgh while Benjamin is a 6-6 red zone mismatch. Somewhere in between the two are Darius Jennings out of Baltimore (Md.) Gilman School and Tobias Singleton out of Madison (Miss.) Madison Central. Both have a healthy mix of size, speed and fluidity.

Though he is listed at running back, Langi also has a lot of ability catching the ball out of the backfield. He is one of the most versatile players in the nation and has the ability to play running back, H-Back or linebacker in college.

Still counted among the pass-catchers, there are two Second-Team All-American tight ends, reflecting the strong year nationally at the position. O'Leary has been a household name to recruitniks since his sophomore year with his tremendous size, strength and hands. He is joined by Chris Barnett who is no sleeper himself. Barnett is a major mismatch at tight end, combining a 6-6 frame with terrific body control.

A pair of commitments bookend the offensive line in North Carolina fours-star commit Kiaro Holts and four-star Texas commit Garrett Greenlea. Both are very athletic long bodies that can get to the second level and block defenders downfield with agility.

Angelo Mangiro out of Succasunna (N.J.) Roxbury and Conor Hanratty out of New Canaan, Conn., give the offensive interior a very northeastern feel. Hanratty is one of 12 current Notre Dame commitments while Mangiro holds offers from the likes of Florida, Ohio State, USC and North Carolina.

Finally, Louisville commit Mike Romano rounds out the offensive unit as the initiator at center. Romano hails from Port St. Lucie (Fla.) Treasure Coast and earned his spot on the team with a very strong performance at the BadgerSports Elite Lineman Challenge in February.
