Player Countdown to Kickoff - No. 88

#88 Arthur Lynch Position: Tight End Class: Sophomore

Height/Weight: 6-5, 254 High School: Dartmouth High, Dartmouth Mass.
Projected Fall Team Depth Chart Position: Fourth Team

Spring Review: Lynch enjoyed a solid spring for the Bulldogs getting work alongside Aron White, Orson Charles and Bruce Figgins. The Mass. native appeared in 11 games for the Bulldogs last year, catching two passes for 17 yards, both coming against Tennessee Tech. He became a crowd favorite after making some big catches in the G Day game.

Fall Preview: Despite being listed as fourth team on the post-spring depth chart, that shouldn't keep Lynch from being a dependable part of the Bulldog offense. Last week Coach Richt indicated the Bulldogs would use more two tight end sets this year so Lynch will play a lot. A devastating blocker, Lynch probably doesn't get enough credit for his pass-catching abilities. Although he won't grab as many passes as White and Charles, Lynch can certainly hold his own.

It's not often that Georgia gets tight ends or anybody for that matter out of Massachusetts, but it worked when the Dawgs got Jermaine Wiggins, so why not try again. Enter this year's number 88, Arthur Lynch. He has a great frame for a tight end. He is a great blocker and even though he caught just two passes as a freshman last season it looks like he has a bright future.

Another 88 that did not catch a lot of passes in his freshman year was Brice Hunter. Hunter only had three receptions in his freshman season of 1992. As a sophomore, he did a little better as he hauled in a school-record 76 passes for 970 yards and nine touchdowns. His 76 catches are still a Georgia record and his 182 receptions in his career is second best. He played in the NFL for the Dolphins and Buccaneers and married former Bulldog basketball player Brandi Decker. In tragic news, Brice was shot and killed in a Chicago apartment and died in 2004.

Norris Brown was a Bulldog that wore 88. He was part of three conference championships and a national title. Norris started at tight end for the Dawgs from 1979 to 1982. He played two games in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings, but never caught a pass.

Woerner the Returner! Scott Woerner did not wear 88, but that the amount of punt returns he had in his career and two of them were returned for scores. One of them was against Clemson back in 1980 when he returned a punt 67 yards for the score and later in that game had a huge interception return that set up another score as the Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 20-16.

Vince Dooley's final season as Bulldogs head coach was 1988. His 201 wins is still 2nd most by a SEC head coach and is tied for 2nd with six SEC titles. He won the national championship in 1980 and won many more national and NCAA titles as Georgia's athletic director.

1988 - Georgia Record: 9-3
Head Coach: Vince Dooley
Captains: Todd Wheeler, Wycliffe Lovelace and David Guthrie
