Illinois native Dan LeFevour drafted by Bears
Dan LeFevour finally heard his named called when his childhood favorite team, the Chicago Bears, drafted him in the sixth round Saturday.While it took a little longer than most expected, former Central Michigan quarterback
Projected by some to be the third quarterback taken, LeFevour is an Illinois native (Downers Grove) and grew up a huge Chicago Bears fan. He will joins an impressive Bears staff that includes offensive guru Mike Martz and Chicago is also where former CMU offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian spent a few years as a quality control coach.
LeFevour was the 12th pick in the sixth round and the 181st selection overall. He is the fourth quarterback in school history to be drafted and the first since Gary Hogeboom in 1980.
LeFevour joins five other Chippewas currently active in the NFL. He is the first Chippewa to be selected in the NFL Draft since 2007 and the 32nd overall.
LeFevour is the NCAA Bowl Subdivision's all-time leader in total touchdowns with 150 (102 passing, 47 rushing, one receiving), and he ranks second in Bowl Subdivision history with 15,853 career yards of total offense (12,905 passing, 2,948 rushing).
He holds Mid-American Conference career records for total offense, passing yards, touchdown passes, completions (1,171) and attempts (1,763). In Bowl Subdivision history, LeFevour ranks fourth in completions, eighth in touchdown passes and ninth in passing yards.
LeFevour led the Chippewas to three conference titles, four bowl game appearances and two bowl victories in four seasons as a starter. CMU was 36-15 in games LeFevour started.
Named the MAC's Vern Smith Leadership Award winner as a senior, LeFevour was a two-time MAC Offensive Player of the Year honoree, three-time All-MAC first team selection and four-time Academic All-MAC choice.
