Kennedy, Mason Jr. And The 1,000 Point Plateau
D.J. Kennedy scored 27 points vs. Rutgers on Tuesday, Feb. 2, to become the 44th St. John's player in history to reach the 1,000-point plateau, hitting the mark dead-on at 1,000.Red Storm swingman
He now totals 1,070 career points (38th), only three points away from passing Jayson Williams (37th, 1,072 points, 1988-90), and only 29 points shy from overtaking Mike Parenti (36th, 1,098, 1955-58).
Redshirt senior Anthony Mason Jr. became the 45th player all-time, scoring seven points on the road at USF (Feb. 20) to become a member of the elite club at 1,000 even. Now with 1,008 points, he needs 14 points to surpass No. 44 Bill Wennington (1,021, 1982-75).
During the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, another pair of Red Storm teammates attained membership in the exclusive club. Guard Daryll Hill became the 42nd St. John's player to score more than 1,000 points on Nov. 26, 2005, as he netted 16 in a 67-61 win over Niagara. Just over a year and a month later, classmate Lamont Hamilton became the next member of the Red Storm family to reach that tremendous milestone with a nine-point output against DePaul on Jan. 3, 2007.
Hill finished at No. 26 and Hamilton is No. 28, joining the likes of all-time leading scorers Chris Mullin (2,440), Malik Sealy (2,402), Felipe Lopez (1,927), Bob Zawoluk (1,826) and Zendon Hamilton (1,810), on the list of the top scorers in St. John's hoops history.
