Lamb's 49 not enough, No. 10 Oak Hill falls

MORE: Check out the latest RivalsHigh Top 100 boys basketball rankings

Doron Lamb of Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill put on quite a show Saturday night at the Prime Time Shootout in Trenton, N.J.

He had 49 points - second in tournament history to the 52 LeBron James put up in 2003 - and hit three 3-pointers in the final 17.5 seconds. But it wasn't enough.

St. Peter's Prep, on the fringes of the RivalsHigh Top 100 boys basketball rankings all season, finally got the signature victory it had been seeking when it scored an 84-81 upset over No. 10 Oak Hill behind 33 points from junior guard Myles Davis.

It was the second loss of the weekend for a team in Top 10 of the RivalsHigh Top 100 boys basketball rankings; No. 9 Memphis (Tenn.) Ridgeway lost on Saturday night.

Oak Hill's loss came in the highlight game of a day of action at the Prime Time Shootout that saw plenty of good teams but not many good games.

No. 11 Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick had an easy 74-56 over No. 23 New York (N.Y.) Rice behind 21 points from Kyrie Irving and 20 from Mike Gilchrist.

No. 13 Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep rolled over Hotchkiss (Conn.) Prep, 64-48, getting 19 from Cory Joseph and 18 from Nick Johnson.

And No. 27 Jersey City (N.J.) St. Anthony beat Oak Ridge (N.C.) Military Academy 63-46.

Oak Ridge was a last-minute replacement for No. 37 Rockville (Md.) Montrose Christian, which couldn't make it up the East Coast due to the snow.

The St. Anthony-Montrose Christian matchup was supposed to be the marquee game of the event, but when that was cancelled, the tourney got an unlikely boost from St. Peter's.

St. Peter's, which was crushed earlier in the season by No. 3 Paterson (N.J.) Catholic but lost overtime games to St. Anthony and No. 83 Middle Village (N.Y.) Christ the King, got its big win thanks to Davis.

Davis, a junior shooting guard ranked No. 37 in the Class of 2011 with offers from Louisville and Pittsburgh among others, had a tournament-record tying 8 3-pointers. St. Peter's had a 79-72 lead with 22 seconds left then held off Oak Hill's Lamb-led comeback.

Davis now has 82 points and 18 3-pointers in his last three games.

St. Peter's Prep is just as hot. It has now won eight of its last nine games - with the lone loss coming to Christ the King - and should once again get a strong look when the next RivalsHigh Top 100 boys basketball rankings are released this week.
